Three Storey SIPS Eco-House, Anglesey

The house was originally designed to be two storey with a trussed roof. By using the Kingspan TEK Building System Mr & Mrs Dean have been able to design a three storey house with at least two bedrooms in the attic - in what would otherwise have been unusable space.

Development factfile

Client: Mr & Mrs S. Dean
Contractor: Thompson Brothers, Anglesey
Architect: Eric Roberts, R.G.R.Partnership, Llangefni T: 01248 722887
SIPS Started: 11.1.2010
SIPS Completed: 10.2.2010
Project Address: Treaddur Bay, Anglesey
INTERESTING FACT: Despite the worst weather in years we were able to start the erection in January and finished installing the roof on 10th February. As the building is now watertight, Thompson's, the main contractor, can now commence with the internal fit irrespective of the weather. Work can now progress on the external skin. If the building had been built using traditional methods it is unlikely that more than a few courses of blocks would have been laid.

The materials

Foundation: Block & beam
Walls and roof: The Kingspan TEK Building System (SIPs)
Outer walls: Roughcast Render
Roof Tiles: Natural Grey Slate
Heating: Underfloor heating to the groundfloor only.
