Development factfile

Client: Peter Holly
Contractor: Lee Chadwick, L.C. Construction Services Ltd.
Architect: David Richold, Arch-Tech Design, Bishop Monkton
SIPS Started: Monday 16th June 2008
SIPS Completed: Thursday 3rd July 2008
Project Address: St John's Road, Bishop Monkton
INTERESTING FACT: Peter Holly is debating whether to use a ground source heat pump or a gas combination boiler, given that gas is readily available. He is coming to the conclusion that gas may well be the most cost effective and environmentally friendly way of heating the water. Peter can consider using gas without worrying too much about future price increases because the insulation & air tightness qualities of the TEK system means he will have a minimal space heating requirement. Solar thermal will also provide much of the hot water. Lee Chadwick has commented that this is the most dimensionally accurate building he has ever worked on. The brick coursing works exactly as per the drawings and this accuracy saves time & money not just with the bricklayers but with all the other trades as well.

The materials

Foundation: Basement with block & beam floor above.
Walls and roof: The Kingspan TEK Building System
Outer walls: Traditional red brick
