Used in everything from activity centres to residential self builds, it’s no secret that structural insulated panels are here to stay. Over the years, we have collaborated alongside many happy clients to achieve their dream build, no matter its size or shape.

But what is it that’s convincing so many people to change from conventional methods of building to this new approach?

  1. They’re quick to build with

Structural insulated panels have a huge advantage over other building methods… they’re fast. Made by our suppliers Kingspan TEK and fashioned to size in our own Skipton factory, our CAD designs allow us to ensure they will slot together perfectly when they arrive at your site.

This means less on-site waste and a super speedy build time. This is dependent on the size of the project, however we regularly have the SIP frame in place in less than two weeks.

  1. They’re great for adding extensions

A lesser known fact about buildings made with SIPs is how easy it is for us to add extensions after construction. Whether it’s due to a growing family or the inclusion of a home office or garage, we can easily alter the structure of your existing SIPs home to accommodate the change.

  1. You can cut down your carbon footprint

One of the main reasons why so many people choose structural insulated panels is to be a little more environmentally friendly. Their advanced structure means that they offer excellent airtightness and insulative properties, reducing the amount of energy spent on heating your home.

For example, our award-winning Sheffield project achieved a level 4 from the Code of Sustainable Homes, demonstrating the effectiveness of the panels.

  1. You can get creative

SIPs are incredibly strong and their superior insulation means that they can be thinner than alternative building materials. No matter the size and shape of your required design, their versatile nature means you can have more freedom over your project at less of the cost.

  1. You can live in your loft

Structural insulated roof panels don’t require roof trusses, and this means that they can offer inhabitants an extra space to enjoy. This not only helps to make the most of your build, it can also add to the overall value of your home.

  1. They’re easy on your wallet

Although the initial cost of structural insulated panels may seem a bit higher than alternative types of construction, this doesn’t take into account the money that you’ll save. The speed at which the frame is erected can massively reduce your overall build time, meaning less is spent paying for workers. On top of this, their superior airtightness and insulation also mean that they can drastically reduce your heating bills for long-term value for money.

  1. They have a unique structure

Structural insulated panels can vary depending on the building system you choose, however they should all feature insulation sandwiched between two OSB/3 boards. The insulation will be made from either expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam or closed-cell polyurethane (PU) foam.

[email protected] use the Kingspan TEK Building System which features PU foam. This type offers approximately 20% more insulation that its counterpart, meaning the walls can be thinner and you can really make the most of your space.
